Hello!
My kitchen currently looks like this. No work surface, no appliances, no sink, no floor. I packed up the kitchen a few weeks ago and have subsisted off oatcakes ever since.
So I’m afraid there is no recipe from me today. I’m sorry. In lieu, I give you a little list of little things that have brought me joy recently, amidst the renovation chaos:
~ A doors-opening swim at the lido, followed by a doors-opening coffee at my favourite spot. I sat on the perfectly pea green bench, hair drip-drying in the sunshine, coffee coaxing my mind into action, and watched the world quietly wake up.
~ Allium flowers and cow parsley in the park.
~ An encounter with two young boys, who couldn’t have been more than eight years old, offering to wash my car to raise money for a school trip they’re hoping to go on next year. I’m thrilled my car no longer has bird poo on, and they’re £10 closer to going to Spain.
~ The first tomatoes of the year that truly tasted of tomatoes. Datterini, from Italy. A hopeful hint of good things round the corner.
~ The weekend newspaper, in actual paper form. A flippy-flappy, inky delight. One that I hope doesn’t get usurped by screens entirely.
~ Punnet upon punnet of early strawberries at the greengrocers. I didn’t buy any since it still feels a little too early (?) but the heady smell alone was another hopeful hint.
I’m taking dust refuge at my parents’ house this weekend so fingers crossed I’ll be able to share a recipe with you shortly. In the meantime, perhaps you might like to dig into the archive of spring recipes.
Until next time x

Morning Florence, I love this even without a recipe! How exciting to be having a new kitchen. I've just had 2 wonderful days in Delft with Michelle. Hope all goes smoothly, have a good weekend. Amanda xx
Wishing you a very swift and smooth renovation (as swift and smooth as renovations can be)! I can very much relate to the soothing comfort of biscuits amidst all of the chaos and the dust 💛
